Are you moving toward optimum performance?

What is optimum performance?
The question raises different responses from different people. Have you ever thought about how much better you could be doing with your small business or in your career? What about your relationship with someone you love or the state of your health right now?
I have to admit that at any point in my life, one or more of these areas needs more attention than I give it.
There seems to be so much to do, so much to accomplish if ‘more’ is the focus.
Let me suggest that the quest for more is a trap. It never stops.
Optimum performance is about playing life at the highest possible level. If we are so full of potential, then why are most of us not living up to that potential in every area of our life?
There are a couple of very good reasons that make perfect sense and we’ll start with desire, passion and fun. Do you remember when you were a kid and all you wanted to do was play?
What was one thing you loved to do that you could do for hours and never want to stop?
Ask yourself why?
If you are like me, then it’s because it was fun and exciting and you felt good doing it. It made you happy and you never wanted to stop doing it until you dropped.
We all knew that we could get hurt running, playing, and challenging ourselves. But the reward of having fun, feeling free and the sense of accomplishment was worth the price.
We were born natural risk takers back then. What happened and why is it relevant to optimum performance?
Part of the reason you enjoyed what you did was the ‘positive feedback’ you received from others.
The other more important part is because it was what you wanted to do. It didn’t really matter how ‘good’ you were. The ‘how good’ was secondary to just having fun.
It was the times you chose to do what you wanted that was the most fun and exhilarating. It wasn’t when someone else said you needed to do or should do something.
Optimum performance can only truly be achieved when ‘all of you’ is in the game. And believe me, life is just a game. You loved playing as a kid and it’s time to start playing again.
Just going through the motions in a job or career that you tolerate is not fun. Not earning the income you want is not fun. Not having the energy or health you want is not fun.
What’s not fun in your life right now?
So the real question you are now faced with is this… do you want to have fun again? Do you want to play?
How great would the results be in each area of your life if it were fun again? Well it can be… once you make that commitment.
Do not confuse having fun with not putting in effort. You will achieve results in every area of your life in direct proportion to the effectiveness of the effort you put in, not the effort. Do not confuse activity with results.
Part of my focus in these blog posts will be to help you think about why you are getting certain results in your life right now, and how to significantly enjoy yourself more, so that the results are the by-product of having fun and doing what you love and want to do.
The game of life is about choosing what you really want. The real trick in having more is in becoming more and having fun. It is natural to grow and become more when we do what we love and what we want.
Optimum performance is about doing the ‘right things’ really well. In future posts we’ll explore the cause of all results and the optimum ways to achieve more in less time.
We will explore the physical body’s role as well as the mind’s in relation to ‘optimum performance.’
Right now I want you to pinpoint the cause of one of your greatest accomplishments to date. Later we’ll explore what your true potential really is!
Do one thing right now, to move yourself closer to having a great day!

You are absolutely right. There is a point that I have reached which is called “information overload” where I feel like I have to have all the information. And when I have it, I don’t have time to read it, listen to it, or learn it and apply it. Instead of just building the business, I’m fattening my mind which is causing other business issues to not get accomplished. It is frustrating.

i really want to have fun in my selling job. this article reinforced the waning motivation i have at work. well, thank you coach for giving this. it somehow reminded me that my job in sales should be fun and exciting but if sales are not coming in well, it’s gonna be a boring career. today I’m going to reflect on this item until it sinks in to my system again. thank you

Reading your blog today helped me realize that I have accomplished what I set out to do in my career and that is running and owning my own business. It comes with its challenges but the benefits of setting my own hours and enjoying what I do far outwhiegh any challenges. I am going to focus my day on being thankful and possitive about where i am in my career and focus on growth as it comes.

Everything said in there is true! We just need to be reminded sometimes! In fact I had an experience that really does make this blog correct! Last night I had 3 appointments, and I really had fun at all 3! I made no sales, but I did plant some solid seeds and they will bear fruit. I realized that having fun in my business, makes it all worthwhile and rewarding!

I truly need to hear this today. I do have fun at what I do in my work. When I have a project I feel at my best and life is just grand. I get stuck “in the meantime” That is the time in between the projects to life at peak performance. I still need to explore that part of me to get me to live my life at the optimum most of my self. Today I am going to take a walk on the beach to give myself a super fantastic day.

John,
I really enjoyed your sharing in “The Secret” and also appreciate the perspective behind your article about moving toward optimum performance. I encourage people on this path to really look for the simplicity in “their life” key focus being their life, not just life. For me, I started really thinking about each of my heartbeats and how once they past I would not get them back. Then my question became “How do I want to spend my heartbeats? It really puts things in perspective and exclusive of money or success, what I believe we are all trying to search for is authenticity in who we are. Find that because it’s ours and we all own it and I believe the money will follow. In Service to you,
Louis
